Use this safety inspection checklist for your outdoor sports area to avoid accidents from occurring putting the facility and/or individuals at risk of fault. This checklist will help you ensure the safety of your athletes and those who use the field as routine inspection will decrease the likelihood of injury or accidents.

Outdoor Athletic Facilities
Are the fields level and free of obstacles (holes, ruts, rocks, glass, and other foreign objects)?
Has the grass been mowed and excess grass picked-up and disposed of properly?
Is the fencing secure and free of sharp edges?
Are sprinkler heads protruding?
Are goal post properly padded and in working order?
Are tennis court nets secure and free of sharp edges?
Are backstops securely anchored?
Shrubs and trees – no branches hanging over walkways or play areas?
Blacktop, play courts & sidewalks free of holes or cracks?
Is track surface in good condition?
Is there sufficient and safe space between each field event?
Are properly designed, constructed and counter-weighted soccer goals used?
Are dugouts in safe condition, seating free of splinters, sharp edges and dry rot?
Are press boxes, if available, in good repair (with safe access, protective barriers, and adequate seating)?
Bleachers
Are there broken welds on deck or seat support brackets?
Is there missing or bent cross angle hardware or supports?
Are the bleacher seats in good condition?
Are there adequate guardrails and handrails installed on bleachers that may require such protection?
Is there accessible seating that meets ADA guidelines?
Are bleachers inspected annually by local personnel and at least every three years by a qualified professional?
Locker rooms (if available)
Are the floors of the shower room regularly cleaned and sanitized?
Are sinks and shower room hot water controls working properly?
Are the lockers in good working order, properly secured with no sharp edges present?
Is equipment properly stored and not a hazard?
Other
Are scoreboards, if available, inspected annually and in good working order?
Is lighting, if available, inspected annually and in good working order?
Is the sound system, if available, in good working order and tested annually?
