University Scholarships and Financial Aid notifies students who did not meet SAP standards by email to their Virginia Tech email address. This notification outlines the academic standards the student did not meet, their ineligibility for financial aid, and other pertinent information regarding appeals and procedures. Students who have met SAP standards will not receive any type of notification.
Students who have experienced extenuating circumstances during their academic time at Virginia Tech can appeal for financial aid eligibility. Appeals are subject to the dates and deadlines below. Students who submit a FAFSA after the final deadlines will have 14 days to appeal for aid eligibility.

Appeals submitted after the final deadline will be processed and reviewed for aid eligibility for the following semester. Students who are facing challenges meeting deadlines should reach out to our office directly.
Financial aid may not be disbursed to a student’s account until SAP has been evaluated. This process cannot be completed until after grades have officially posted from the prior semester.
NOTE: Students who have not met SAP standards may experience a delayed financial aid disbursement if grades are not made official before the start of the subsequent semester. No exceptions can be made to this process. Late fees will not be waived.
Students who choose not to appeal will be required to meet the SAP standards before regaining eligibility for financial aid. Once the student has regained SAP, the student is eligible to receive financial aid at Virginia Tech. The student cannot automatically regain eligibility by paying for classes for a semester, by sitting out a semester, or by taking classes elsewhere.
